@kzimmermann Android is more secure than Windows. Few reasons:- Encrypted by default storage. Combined with PIN/Pattern lock, it works pretty well.- Mostly single source of apps. Apps are monitored and approved by Google. Some malicious apps still get in but it's much less than Windows.- No admin(root) access by default. Windows apps can modify system easily.- Malware detection is easier than Windows due to most apps using Java/kotlin instead of native(C++/Rust).- Process(app) isolation.

... App isolation means you can't access files/memory of any other app. And it's the fundamental way how Android works.- Locked bootloader by default and verification of system integrity(literally partition and files) on boot.- Much more FOSS apps available for Android which is an indirect advantage for security and privacy.

@kzimmermann yeah, it is my opinion that Windows specific FOSS apps are harder to build, and fewer people are doing it. On the other hand, GitHub is full of Android apps.Even before Android became a thing, you'd find almost all Windows apps are freeware rather than free apps.I am saying that from experience and may be wrong.

@didek True. I hope someone extracts the code and releases it as a standalone app since it's already opensource.

Is #nostr going to be an alternative to #fediverse?Honestly, the simplicity of #nostr protocol, enthusiasm surrounding it and the exploding community is something very cool, but why do I smell the $hitcoin and other #cryptocurrency shit becoming one of the major thing there? I hope it doesn't end up being another #crypto #revival scheme.Anyway, I'm tinkering with it and want to see it grow in something neat.

Endless stream of #Spam and unreliable #relays are the main problem for now. Which explains why is there a concept of #Paid #Relay and seeing the $hitcoin being major or only method of payment, I am afraid it's going to be another #cryptocurrency infested could-be great project. I hope to be proven wrong.#nostr #fediverse

@Kobold there's a NIP(#nostr spec) for even deletion. But it depends on client to not show that event. They say it's optional for client, so they can't enforce this.https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/09.md

@didek even if #nostr fucks up… I am still curious how far can they take this simple public-key cryptography based protocol for an actual usable social media. Because if it works, we can have another far simpler protocol and reuse most of the client/relay infra they're creating.

@IzzyOnDroid @eighthave I see that TrailSense app's metadata is being regularly updated in fdroiddata repo:https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/blob/master/metadata/com.kylecorry.trail_sense.ymlBut the new builds are still not available. So I want to understand:1. What is the process for building and deploying apps after metadata update2. How can I help with this process? I want to get involved with F-Droid and help here n there whenever possible and I'm thinking starting with the update process is simplest option.

@paul I used to do that but now I simply right-click > inspect and search for rss/atom/feed and get the link in 95% cases.Thing is, most sites generates RSS/Atom feeds but don't have a visible icon/link anywhere.

@stefano so it's not that performant yet. I hope it lives upto the hype.

@stefano well it seems to be more performant than that:`With my Bcachefs benchmarks last week it appears part of the slower Bcachefs performance is at least in part due to debug transactions being enabled by default. Thus it will make for more interesting testing next round for seeing how these latest fixes and improvements are helping Bcachefs compete with the likes of F2FS, Btrfs, EXT4, and XFS.`https://www.phoronix.com/news/Bcachefs-Updated-Linux-6.7

@BrodieOnLinux I guess it's time for me too as mine got cracks cuz of falling few times. Also the freaking 5G.The ISPs offering free 5G here. I know it's marketing tactic but damn the speed difference is too much.
