@atomicpoetI do have sympathy for people still on Twitter who are still on the fence about where to go, who are part of specialized communities that haven’t yet moved over, and so forth.But anyone who claims staying on Twitter now is somehow fighting fascism, defending the marginalized, or resisting Trump in staying, rather than at best being unproductive and at worst enabling Musk, desperately needs a reality check. Twitter is dying as a platform and is already dead as a medium for any political activism that Musk doesn’t approve of. @Craktok

@Craktok @testing There’s 10 million people on the Fediverse now, double what it was in November. There doesn’t need to be an instant mass migration to make it feasible, there just needs to be driven people who build on the tech. Which is what’s happening now.

@testing @atomicpoet the way you take control is to weaken Twitter. The best way to weaken Twitter is to get LOTS of people to migrate (not just 10 or 20). The best way to get loads of people to migrate is to get some of the biggest names (celebs) to switch over.But in the meantime also fight the good fight over there.

@atomicpoet it’s not about early adopters as the internet is long established, it’s about where the product is. If I want to follow Tom Cruise, the New York Times or Manchester United then I have to be on Twitter.If you want massive migration to mastodon then you still need these celebrities to migrate over. It’s pretty cut and dried.

@atomicpoet musk doesn’t need to buy mastodon, he just needs to make Twitter profitable because of his massive loans. The problem is that he’s a right wing conspiracy theorist and he’s using Twitter to promote it. As a result some people (like me) have switched to mastodon but the majority of Twitter users don’t know what’s going on. Or don’t care as it doesn’t affect them yet.

@Craktok No, my probably isn't that Musk bought Twitter. My problem is that Twitter is a centralized walled garden social media service that is broken by design. What Elon Musk has done with Twitter has simply validated everything I've said for the past 5 years.

@Craktok @atomicpoet @testing celebrities are the last people to leave because they require an audience. People didn't join facebook because of celebrities, and they didn't join twitter for it either. The celebrities came later.If the only people posting on twitter are right wingers then the people who want a left wing audience will go where their audience went. At this point the only thing people should be doing on twitter is helping people find their way somewhere else.
