While I can’t verify that the information is accurate, I would guess that it was.Assuming that information is accurate, can you see the problem with believing that Trump would have done something, given that he had a habit of skipping his intelligence briefings, and that this exact same thing had already happened multiple times before under his watch?

He bragged about his nuclear button to the Norks, and made provocative statements everywhere he went in Asia-Pacific nations.If you told him a chink balloon was making him look bad, he’s not exactly the guy who would mumble about diplomacy instead of shooting it down.If your point is “he didn’t know”, that’s a different problem from “he didn’t care”. @PunishedD @alex Trump’s success was based on his transgression, which worked because people were fed up with the last 2+ decades of the neoliberal meta of being as “dignified” as possible at the expense of being strategically transgressive. It was what took him from polling at 1-2% to winning the presidency. He kept doing it because the pollsters told him that it was working. Don’t misinterpret his behavior as proof of his authenticity or a lack of self-interest. He is still just a President that came into power through his populist appeal.

TikToks from people concerned about the balloon are an especially interesting (?disturbing?) phenomenon. I am not on TikTok so I have no idea how prevalent such posts are, I've only seen anecdotes on other platforms. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them think.

I’m staying with the metric that if they DO something, put some work into making it stick even when people fight him on it, that counts.Trump is a blowhard uber-narcissist who governed by his gut instead of by solid principles. But those instincts were strongly nationalist, among other things, and it turns out that’s good enough to get better results for us than the most carefully rationalized neoliberalism.If you tell Trump “X is hurting American security”, he’ll reflexively try to stomp down whatever it is. Tell that to Biden/Romney/Clinton/Bernie/whoever, they’re a lot less likely to do anything, though they will SAY a lot about it. They may even have a reasoned, pre-established opinion about it. But they won’t care enough to do something, until their handlers tell them “it’s time to do something and here’s the plan for you to sign”.
