Yesterday I went down the rabbit hole and wondered why there aren't many standalone #orgmode editors (or at least I haven't found any besides #emacs :emacs: )I like orgmode but it doesn't integrate very well with #neovim :neovim: Any suggestions? #askTheFediverse

@lopeztel I use spacemacs. Came from decades of vim use prior to that. I was surprised at how easy the transition was. Evil-mode is great. So I'd suggest trying doom or spacemacs so that you don't have to focus on on learning emacs too much.

@nickanderson @lopeztel I'm sad to say that I'm not smart enough to have ever understand why org is magic (even when I tried emacs). I seem to be able to live without it so I stopped my efforts but I'll probably go back to it one day to end this frustration of missing something. Anyway, have you tried neorg? As I said I can't tell you if it's good but I'll drop the link here just in case https://github.com/nvim-neorg/neorg

@wwwgem @nickanderson @lopeztel Same here, don't really understand the use of orgmode - but then I'm not that organised. I guess it's not really the same thing, but I use vimwiki to manage a few notes and todos etc.https://vimwiki.github.io/

@paul @lopeztel @nickanderson I used to use vimwiki as well. I've "recently" moved to mkdnflowhttps://github.com/jakewvincent/mkdnflow.nvim

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem Well, org-mode provides a way to store information in plain text. There's the format itself which I think is a bit more expressive than markdown (sometimes referred to as orgdown). "Org Mode Syntax Is One of the Most Reasonable Markup Languages to Use for Text" https://karl-voit.at/2017/09/23/orgmode-as-markup-only/ and there's the functionality in emacs and wider org-mode ecosystem.

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem The syntax and tooling make it easier to be organized, or can help compensate for lack of organization and I guess this is perhaps the magic of org-mode.

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem I have org files all over the place, I always thought it was cool how I could pull up agenda and see everything at once and search etc ... Funnily enough, I still haven't managed to make agenda stick in my use.

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem I end up keeping a daily log of things and use links to connect things. Org-babel is really good for me. Instead of running commands interactively in a terminal I tend to run commands by executing src blocks. Then I can type up whatever in thinking about whatever I saw and asking myself questions and using src blocks to answer them.

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem This way I don't even have to copy and paste and tidy saved terminal output. If I make a mistake in a command I just tweak and rerun untill it's good and move on.

@paul @lopeztel @wwwgem From there it's really easy to export all that text and command output to a specific format for another system. For example, jira. But also markdown, and asciidoc, ODT, PDF, html, etc...The ecosystem is quite rich.
