When your manufacturing processes are not 100% local to a datacenter your biggest enemy is not Russian hacks it's crackheads looking for copper ☹️

"Just get redundant lines" turns out the crackheads will take both of them

@SwiftOnSecurity in my experience, it’s also “where there’s fiber, a backhoe will find it”

@The_Asshat @SwiftOnSecurity I had a rural point of presence feeding about 10k customers. Dual feed, one overhead, one buried.Buried got hit by a backhoe digging a foundation next door (5 meters from where the plans said). He also hit the 8 inch water main we'd put above the fiber to protect it.He panicked at the hole filling with water, put the backhoe on the trailer without lowering the bucket and drove under the overhead fiber - Taking out the fiber and power to the neighborhood.

@SwiftOnSecurity Survival tip from networkers: when camping far from civilization, bring a short length of fiber optic cable with you. In an emergency, dig a hole and bury it. A backhoe will arrive at your location within a very short time to sever it.
