Does anyone know a of a good app or tool for managing your #Mastodon lists? I really want to get mine organised properly, but the interfaces I have tried are too clunky to work on my 700+ follows.Actually what I want is something that works more like Twitter lists where you can add people you don't follow to a list. Being able to exclude people that are on certain lists from the home feed would be good too!#help

You know, I could *probably* write something myself. But I'd really like this to be part of Mastodon mainline or a feature of apps.cc @tootapp @ivory @icecubesapp

@john @ivory @icecubesapp Excluding people from the home feed would be a really good thing to have in Mastodon itself. It's a pain to implement on a client, so it would make a lot of sense serverside.

You could *almost* do what I want with filters, but for one small detail. Filters apply to home AND lists. ARG! So close.

@tootapp @ivory @icecubesapp Agreed. I use the web interface a lot, so having Toot! do it for me would really only half solve the problem (although I'd take it!).

@john It astonishes me that you can't add to a list someone who you don't follow. I just don't get it at all.

@mike I get it, technologically, it's just adding a DB table for lists that can be looked up, adding to existing infrastructure. Unfollowed people showing up in your timeline feels like a different sort of functionality to me. I'm not sure ActivityPub supports it exactly, or if that's even relevant.But it does make Lists a feature with a really marginal benefit. Like a lot of things on Mastodon, it's shaky at scale. The tools for dealing with large volumes are poor.

@john @mike Oh dear, I'd completely forgotten that you can't add accounts you don't follow to lists. That'd explain a lot though: the Mammoth beta doesn't warn you about it so I've been blindly making lists that are... well, lacking in many members as it turns out and thinking they weren't working to display content from some accounts because of a bug.This goes counter to the reason I want to use lists.

@albi Yep, can't change platforms without a drop-in replacement.

@john agree … except I don’t have the talent to write my own … the need to follow to add to a list might be baked into how mastodon works … because that seems consistent across the various apps … maybe @Gargron has a thought … #Ivory is my favorite for lists BTW

Omg, @ivory does this! It lets you filter people from the home timeline, which is good enough for me. Now, come on the Mac app so I can have this work everywhere I use Mastodon.(I have a big complaint about the iPad app actually, so I’m not sure I’m ready to do this…)

@ivory my complaint about the iPad app, by the way, is that your lists aren’t in the sidebar because it’s too narrow for text. Even though the toot column is too wide really. It doesn’t even work in landscape, where the toot column gets ridiculously wide. The app Toot! Gets this right, and has your lists listed in the sidebar.

@john Yea it's on our list to fix in the future. We plan to make big improvements to columns on iPad.
