I keep seeing this back-patting about how election deniers got clobbered in 2022 and we should celebrate. In a report by my friends at Rural Organizing (with me looking over their shoulder), using my No More Election Deniers dataset, they find reason to be cautious about this. Hundreds of election deniers, from Senate to statewide to state leg, won their elections handily, in very safe, very red seats. Large swaths of the country are now represented by election deniers.https://ruralorganizing.org/report-election-deniers-2022-midterm-elections

Delighted to see this report getting some attention and just want to reiterate my DMs are open if you are also working on fighting election deniers this cycle and want to connect! I'm a pollster by trade but a political everything by character.

And there were important statewide wins by election deniers -- two of Georgia's most important statewide commissioners, Idaho's Lt Gov and SoS, and a dozen Senate seats are now held by people who took some concrete action to overturn the 2020 election results. Kevin McCarthy voted against certifying the 2020 election! We are far from safe on the question of election denial in the GOP. The high-profile losses distract from an alarming number of wins.

Ultimately, the fact their wins were in safe areas tells us this element of the GOP is here to stay. Hundreds of election deniers ran unopposed, and hudnreds more ran in R+20 or higher districts. These folks are in safe enough areas their role in senior leaderships of the state and national parties is inevitable. Going in 2024 it should be assumed that election denial will be a ubiquitous part of campaign rhetoric on the right.

And in case I wasn't sufficiently explicit in this thread or if the report was: The "election denier/non-election denier" distinction is rapidly going away, I think.I don't think we need an exact dataset like this next next cycle. Election denial is the Republican platform. Louder election deniers are less competent candidates, yes, and we should note that, but we should also not go into this thinking there's a GOP we can "save."There are plenty of Republican voters we can persuade, however!
