The Abrams is too much of a stretch. I'm not sure even a NATO country could handle taking them and deploying them in three months. The Leopards are a different story. Send them. This is the time. Send them now and they'll be ready to go as soon as the ground hardens after the spring thaw. #SlavaUkraini πΊπ¦ https://www.grid.news/story/global/2023/01/20/free-the-leopard-why-a-german-battle-tank-is-now-at-the-top-of-ukraines-weapons-wish-list/

@rogerswrites I'm still not sure what good main battle tanks are going to do in Ukraine. They're far more costly than effective infantry anti-tank weapons. So far, that fact has been in the Ukrainians' favour.

@publius They need the tanks to break through to Mariupol. It's the key to unlocking the Russian front. It's possible they could do it without heavy armor, but they'd take terrible losses along the way. Any slugfest on the ground favors the Russians, who don't seem to care much about casualties and have a lot more bodies to spare. The window isn't that wide, either. Time favors the Russians, too. It has to be a battle of maneuver, everything moving quick. Blast a hole in the lines and move.
