Here, @PhilMoscovitch writes a terrific piece diving deep into using Jasper.ai and thinking about the fluent bullshit of large language models, their copious mistakes (wait until you read Jasper.ai's risibly inaccurate bio for Philip) and what it'll mean as these sorts of tools become widely used: https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/commentary/could-a-robot-write-this-lessons-on-using-ai-writing-tools-and-what-they-mean-for-journalism/Excellent read, check it out

@clive @PhilMoscovitch incredible piece. This quote made me particularly sad:“My job is to sound as much like a real human being as I possibly can without doing any of the real human things that might strip away the content’s calibrated optimization: no non-sequiturs, no unexpected turns of phrase, no unnecessary off-topic information, no mentioning competing brands or products. Nothing too interesting or boring, too like or unlike anything else.”

@clive @mariyadelano The book the quote is from, Best Young Woman Job Book, by Emma Healey, is excellent.

@clive @PhilMoscovitch Wow. That is a sobering if not dismaying article. The near future promises to present AI-generated prose by the square yard, taking whatever stance is ordered. This will, I think, vastly undermine public trust in the written word.

@Leisureguy On a different note, you make tempeh! Impressive. I am an avid fermenter, but I've only tried tempeh once, with a mushroom culture. Not a great success. Will try again though.

@PhilMoscovitch I struggled up the learning curve. I summarized my lessons learned here:https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2021/06/08/homemade-tempeh/ The great benefit is making combinations you cannot find in stores — eg, my latest batch is chickpea-and-rye, and next I'm going to reprise my black-bean-and-black-rice tempeh. The same goes for fermenting vegetables: I like my own combinations — see list in this post:https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2021/09/05/carrot-cake/ Faves: Beets & Leeks; The Big Red One; Potatoes#tempeh #ferment #fermentation

@Leisureguy Thank you! I wrote a book about fermentation, which kind of burned me out, but over the last couple of years I have been back at it enthusiastically again. Will read your posts.

@PhilMoscovitch Thank you very much. All posts written by hand. 🙂 I'm happy to answer any questions I can on fermentation or tempeh making or traditional shaving (another enthusiasm, about which I even wrote a book) — see https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2006/07/10/a-guide-to-the-gourmet-shaving-experience/

@clive @PhilMoscovitch Now do an article on the Dopamine hook used in experience-based marketing, mega-churches, and MAGA rallies. Is Reliv still a thing? It's all about releasing dopamine. I'm serious, Clive. I don't really like it here anymore. Unfortunately, I'm healthy. Everything is phony, deceitful, manipulative, and damaging to anything good.I miss good, nice, kind, and honest. I would like the internet to fry for a while. Just long enough to hear some honest silence for a while.

@kitsystratton @PhilMoscovitch I know what you mean!I find if I stick to the places where I know things are better quality, and avoid most "suggested" topics, the Internet is still more good than bad ... but it takes work
