@Raspberry_Pi - What could possibly go wrong? — Alternate wording: What's the worst that could happen? — both things too ominous to say aloud.Strongly reminded of velociraptors getting into the kitchen in Juraissic Park.

@stux Elon Musk **REALLY** does not seem to think things through before he does them. Bad impulse control?

@leo Patreon is (IMO) poorly structured. It offers two options at the lower end (where I live): $2/month (not enough, I saw — I was hoping to give $6/month) and, next up, $14.50/month (whoa! can't afford that!).So I look for where I can set amount. Cannot find it. Look for an email or contact link to suggest a "set your own amount" option. Cannot find it.Finally decide I'll do $2/month 3 timres. Do it once, then not allowed to repeat. They have set needless barriers against receiving money.

@stux - I don't know whether it's still a thing, but time was when IBM went on a big tear against "random access" and insisted that people use "direct access" instead, because when you retrieved some from memory, you didn't just pick something at random.

@drhafezster - The picture is very different if an electric razor is used. The whisker's top, instead of being a clean cut, looks as if the part missing was beaten away with a club.

@stux A lawyer friend in Annapolis decades ago would occasionally have to write a letter with this sort of bluster, and his pet phrasing, 'You must forthwith cease this action or I shall take such steps as will amaze you." :)

@clive @PhilMoscovitch Wow. That is a sobering if not dismaying article. The near future promises to present AI-generated prose by the square yard, taking whatever stance is ordered. This will, I think, vastly undermine public trust in the written word.

@PhilMoscovitch I struggled up the learning curve. I summarized my lessons learned here:https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2021/06/08/homemade-tempeh/ The great benefit is making combinations you cannot find in stores — eg, my latest batch is chickpea-and-rye, and next I'm going to reprise my black-bean-and-black-rice tempeh. The same goes for fermenting vegetables: I like my own combinations — see list in this post:https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2021/09/05/carrot-cake/ Faves: Beets & Leeks; The Big Red One; Potatoes#tempeh #ferment #fermentation

@PhilMoscovitch Thank you very much. All posts written by hand. 🙂 I'm happy to answer any questions I can on fermentation or tempeh making or traditional shaving (another enthusiasm, about which I even wrote a book) — see https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2006/07/10/a-guide-to-the-gourmet-shaving-experience/

@Vasabjit @clive Now it seems such an odd idea: a special decorative receptacle for ashes. No stranger, of course, than the idea of wrapping dried leaves in paper and letting the smoulder so one can inhale the smoke while hoping not to get lung cancer or emphysema. 🙂

@clive @Vasabjit There was also the desire to "belong," to be like one's peers. Humans are social animals prone to imitation.

@clive Traditionally (ie, before computers), Go occupied the niche of dangerous games. People were warned that if they start playing Go their jobs, marriages, and relationships in general would suffer because of the game's addictive appeal.#GoGame #games #obsession

@clive I should add as a caution: it's true. One's first few games of Go produce total confusion, but then interest emerges and quickly grows into obsession. One part of its seductive appeal is the handicapping system, which is simple and does no harm to the symmetry of the game (unlike, say, handicaps in chess), so that players of disparate abilities (as two family members) still play intense and closely fought games, with the handicap automatically adjusted after 3 consecutive wins/losses.

@kims @clive And that, of course, contributes to the obsession: "I *almost* won — I came *this* close! I want to play another game."#GoGame
