Yeah, multi post threads like that are annoying here in the Fediverse. Doesn't setting the privacy setting on the followups in the thread to "unlisted" stop them from littering up people's timelines at least though? I read somewhere that was the normal way to do it on Mastodon if you had to multipost threads.

@mnemonicoverload @tallship @tallship You're probably thinking of the bit where mastodont's home TL doesn't show replies.

@Zerglingman @mnemonicoverload @tallship It does if you select that option to expand in the user's settings, but fur the most part, these #twitugees won't take 30 seconds to #RTFM, and then complain when it doesn't behave just like that shithole they love so much (from whence they came). So It's not that setting on the mastodon platform that's so concerning, but instead, all the people in the #Fediverse on all of the other platforms that are getting bombed with this #spam.I've met a couple score if really great, considerate, and attentively consciensness #newcomers from the #deprecated legacy #silo over there, who are interested in knowing how their Fediverse software works and propagates their posts - how it is received by others, and generally taking a real interest in making the Fediverse the very best neighborhood it can be...She's then there's the jerks that just want everything to be like #Twitter, and by golly, come hell it high water, they're gonna make sure that everyone else in the Fediverse is going to have it served up that way. They are so clueless. It isn't and never will be like that at all.At least almost ⅔ of them have already returned there where they belong, after realizing that their petty little protest had no effect on #Elon taking out the trash and cleaning it up over there.About half of that other ⅓ that have remained though? Well, like I said, they're might great people and I've made a lot of new friends!mastodon is such a small part of the entire tree of the Fediverse - and these #inconsiderate #spammers should take into account that they're neither more important or special than anyone else here.

@tallshipI understand where you're coming from, I'm just old enough to remember Eternal September. Transition and growth periods can be painful. The way I figure it though, those that are still here at least have demonstrated some stickwithitness and are probably the more adaptable ones.As for why they ended up on Mastodon instead of a part of the Fediverse that might suit them better, well it's purely visibility I think. As a prior Twitter user I can tell you Mastodon was pretty much the only one getting mentioned as the alternative, for the most part during that panicked period. Probably for the best for the bulk of the initial tide of new people anyway just on a capacity basis, although I did at least try to do some basic education on the alternatives once I'd done my own research into them. I even replied with that same diagram a few times if they seemed open to hearing about other options. Now that the ebb has happened they'll eventually figure out where they actually fit here on the Fediverse with a little help. I've been trying to offer suggestions when the opportunity arises. I try to remember we were all new once and a lot of these ex Tweeters are experiencing switching platforms for the very first time in their entire online life. They don't necessarily have a frame of reference to know how to lurkmore and get a feel for new terrain.@Zerglingman @tallship

@mnemonicoverload @Zerglingman @tallship That last paragraph especially, is problematic. Not for the newcomers that you mention having little to no frame of reference with respect to adopting new systems or the anxiety that they may be experiencing with onboarding and culture shock - but for gearheads liked me who find it hard to conceive that such isn't simply the norm in life - "Oh! There's s new flavor of Javascript frameworks out this week? I'd better buy another book." 😜#tallship #patience ⛵.
