The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre has announced it is removing works by Russian composers from its repertoire. The first ones to go are Shostakovich and Stravinsky.Because, of course, Stravinsky (of all people! 😆) is certainly "too closely associated with this country’s aggressive policy".Although, I suppose, this harms Lithuanian public more. Both Shostakovich and Stravinsky have no shit left to give anymore.https://www.lrt.lt/en/news-in-english/19/1865670/lithuania-s-national-opera-and-ballet-theatre-removes-russian-composers-from-repertoire

@SeventhMagpie Absolutely vile behavior. I might have hoped that a year after the war started the wave of Russophobic bigotry would be dying down, but no, it only seems to be getting worse. I suppose I should have known better: coddling racists never ends well.

I wonder how Anton Rubinstein and Alfred Schnittke (off the top of my head) would be classified. Technically they are Jews, but had lived on the Russian territory. 🤔However, seeing how Stravinsky who had left Russia even before the Bolshevik revolution has not been spared, I'm not sure what the criteria is.

@SeventhMagpie The truth is they don't really have any criteria, only grunts toward reaching some emotional climax of "punishing Russia", oblivious to any question of moral justification or even strategic effectiveness.

@adamasnemesis Or even common sense, it seems.
