@tilvids No, because we need options and competition. Even if most of them exist in the short term, users will have more freedom to choose their preference

@rosbeefandino @vendetta I interpreted @vendetta 's use of "competition" in the sense of competition of ideas, rather than competition of projects (though competition of ideas might certainly take that form).

@tilvids @rosbeefandino "Competition of ideas" is more accurate. Cooperation is welcomed and encouraged, sure, but my point was to do with choice. If we have multiple competing companies that are popular, it drives innovation and demand. For example Cloud storage. 1. You can try out multiple options and choose what you like (proton, tresorit, syncthing, filen etc. or traditional cloud with self-encryption. What would it be if the option was Gdrive, Onedrive or ProtonDrive as only private cloud option (specifically if it was in its current bare state) when many users find it too lacking and unappealing?2. If e2ee, 0knowledge cloud providers keep growing and expanding, it pushes other (non encrypted) competitors to match the offerings and adapt. E.e. Apple's first step in offering E2EE offering to the general market (as flawed as it may be arguably, still crucial). That was my point.
