I know, I'm old fashioned, but I'm more and more convinced that most phone #apps are completely useless (from a user PoV), as using the corresponding webite is far better (IMHO #mastodon is one of them, kudos to devs), and sometimes it's the *only* way as apps have usually less functionalities. Their only upsides are for their devs, they can track everything they want, and more.

@datamaps websites shouldn't be interactive IMO, they should just serve marked up text. That's what the Web was originally intended for.https://suckless.org/sucks/webApps, on the other hand, are actual programs, and they do what they're supposed to, unlike modern webpages.

@Mirk0dex I'm not sure why you have this take about the web, whoever thought that? TBL for sure not! what's your point anyway? have you ever thought about "evolution"? and javascript came soon after, it's been around for three decades now, so what? we should have stared these last decades at our screen with only a bunch of <a> tags in it because someone allegedly said the website should not evolve and remain a static bunch of chars? it doesn't work like that, mate.

@datamaps well, first off, JS is dangerous. It's the medium that allows corps and Russian hackers ti spy on us without us even downloading anything. It just takes a click to run malicious software on your computer nowadays. No need for installation processes anymore. Also, JS and PHP are the real reason behind all the bloated and slow pages that we have today. Bot generated content, useless trackers, cookies, ads, pop-ups, and so on.HTML and CSS-only websites are superior. They're fast.

@datamaps you know, I once used to look up "calculator" when I needed one, and use some garbage on-line calculators. Then I realised that I wasted more time using those websites full of ads than I would have simply by running "sudo apt-get install <some calculator>". Do we really need JS and PHP?

@Mirk0dex I can agree on something, but not on the big picture. Life is dangerous in itself, the point is being aware of the risks and prepare if and when the danger arrives. your reasoning would have humans still live in caves. Besides,, why on earth then, for example, the US is still selling cars and guns like sweets as they kill 100Ks people every year? cigarettes anyone? drugs? mate, it's called evolution, progress, whatever. people get bored easily.
