@kairyssdal 1. When did anything coming out of Chatlie Kirk’s mouth resemble the truth?2. If he’s not completely fabricating this, what does this tell us about Ro Khanna?

@kairyssdal I mean, going with Kirk is always the smart bet when you're talking about ignorance.

@kairyssdal My guess is Kirk confused "showdown" with "shutdown"

@kairyssdal “Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) is one Democrat who has expressed openness to working with Republicans to find a compromise alternative. But any Democratic cooperation would come at a steep price.”

@kairyssdal “ ‘There have to be, in my view, at least two conditions that are met first. They can’t hold this country hostage with the debt ceiling or government shutdowns. And second, they can’t have subpoena power to do frivolous investigations against the president,’ Khanna said on CNN Tuesday evening.” https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3798444-three-scenarios-for-how-the-mccarthy-speakership-fight-could-end/amp/

@kairyssdal@mastodon.worldYeah, let’s not go to CKirk on what Kanna’s position is or what he understands. Better to interview Kanna himself

@kairyssdal Probably just Kirk. I think the first condition is a two pronged demand of (A) no debt ceiling funny business AND (B) no shutdowns, which makes sense. Anyway, Kirk’s job is to shitpost, not to understand the basics of how legislation works! Of course he’s gonna be in way over his head trying to do any kind of reporting on congressional dealmaking and get it completely wrong

@kairyssdal at the risk of arguing with a smarter guy -- that's only part true, right? The debt limit forces a partial shutdown (which has happened during previous debt limit showdowns) because you have reduced funding for ongoing operations and end up closing some down to prolong the time before that financial meltdown. I mean, Kirk is an ass regardless but the shorthand here, if they just omitted the word "partial," seems forgivable.
