       This is a great story of how Barnes & Noble’s new CEO who was hired in 2019 has turned around the company. Sales are up, it opened 16 stores this year and plans to open more next year.The secret is the CEO really likes books and readers. So he stopped doing deals with publishers to promote their latest books & NYT best sellers and encouraged individual stores to promote books they found most interesting.        Sometimes it’s just as simple as good management that cares about the product. This was the lesson I learned from Satya taking over Microsoft and it’s enlightening to see it play out at another company.

       @PTG @carnage4life On one hand, I would love to just support all the independent booksellers over a corporate chain like B&N, but on the other hand, competing in our society the way it's built, they need the buying power of a chain to even stand a chance when their biggest competition is Amazon.So, if it's a choice of making them more like the indie stores, or losing that all together...

       @DeathKitten @PTG @carnage4life choosing between Amazon and Barnes & Noble on one hand and Amazon with no indies at all on the other is still a sad dichotomy. I'm surprised @pluralistic 's book https://chokepointcapitalism.com/ , which lays out many of the dirty tricks and politics that have brought us to this point, isn't categorized as non-fiction *and* horror  😜edit: Fixed typo - Noble, not Nobel
