"I'm sick of people bashing the obvious utility of NFTs. The ease with which I can look at a person's profile, see their involvement with NFTs, and then identify them as a blood sucking sociopath is revolutionary." - Bad Money

@davidgerard I'm in the opposite boat. I see the potential for utility with NFTs, and recognize that these monkey GIFs and other falsely rare collectibles is NOT proper utility.NFTs as people know them are a scam. Pure and simple. How can they be properly used? Look at #SecondLifeEvery item is given a database code. You can buy an item, resell it if allowed, even make copies and modify it. They have utility inside the game, and can be as common or rare as you like.

@kinyutaka @davidgerard so.... It has the benefit of disabling people from duping items, in a game - at the cost of unreasonable consumption of resources to accomplish this. What am I missing? It could be useful to have certain things put on block chain. It's definitely a useful technology - but the instances in which the benefits outweigh the costs seem incredibly rare, to me.

@davidgerard They aren't just some thing that people buy just to show off how much money they had. Most things aren't all that expensive at all. A few cents for small common items, maybe a few bucks for clothes. It is a full and vibrant economy. Everything that crypto used to claim they wanted to be, but now ridicules.

@fcktheworld587 @davidgerardActually, my suggestion is to scrap the Blockchain entirely. We can create decentralized databases without it, if your goal is to allow items to be traded between games. And if you don't want to transfer items that way, then you don't even need the external database. Just the one connected to the game servers themselves.
