       Any other #ActuallyAutistic people out there feel like they were taught to mask by their parents, under the guise of parenting? They taught me that I was supposed to be the person they wanted me to be, and not the person who I actually am. And I was somehow led to believe that this was correct, and that everyone does this all the time, and that 'being real' was actually rude and inconsiderate. But then all my relationships would fall apart when I stopped masking.

       @VeeRat Not explicitly, but absolutely implicitly: nobody told me what the rules were, but I got punished for transgressions so all my growing up was guessing at boundaries. Obviously not a good way to grow into a responsible adult.
