Teach me something useful about a subject you know very well.Doesn't have to be a detailed lesson, in fact ideally just a few words or a single post.Boosts appreciated, 2023 is coming and I'd like to get smarter. Maybe we can all get a bit smarter.I'll start:My job is voiceovers and I can tell you with absolute confidence that reading your writing out loud is like a magic trick for better proofreading. The mouth stumbles on mistakes the eyes glide over.

@ConorMahood classical music exploits organised sound in an architectural dimension which is called Harmony. In either a vertical or horizontal plane, it is exponential development of consonant or dissonant sound, entwined with the dynamics of human emotions.Ethereal, untouchable, it is lived in the moment, between pauses of silence, the waves of feeling in beautiful surges and recedings, the most energising and emotional of the arts.Oxygen patterned into acoustic beauty.#musicismypassion

@Penelope there are a lot of paths! I did a podcast for a few years that got me comfortable with a mic, then I got sick and couldn't do my old job, so I studied voiceover in a course in London, took singing lessons, got a professional reel made with a pro engineer...After that it was (is) a lot of grind. It's a relatively easy way to make extra cash, but a difficult way to make a living.

@Penelope I'm afraid I didn't say much that was useful in my reply, but if you ever have a question about voiceover stuff, please feel free to ask any time.I'm not the authority on the matter, but I'll help if I can!

I've found reading things out loud really isn't enough. Text-to-speech software helps a lot with proofing (I use an open source one called mimic)

@ConorMahood there's a trick in programming called "rubber-ducking" but it's an older method than software really. You know when you start explaining a problem to someone and halfway through you go "never mind I have it now". You have to logically structure a problem, and step outside it, in order to communicate it verbally. This could be a bug in software or anything. You can keep a toy, like a rubber duck, on your desk and try and explain problems to that. Works just as well.

@ConorMahood As part of my work I do software support for a specialized system I know very well. Doing this is one of the best possible ways to learn how to deal with criticism and negativity, if you’re willing to learn. You quickly stop identifying with the complaints thrown at you, and this learning has a positive effect on the rest of your life as well.
