       I hate Windows 8.Not because of its UI: it was pure joy on a touchscreen --but because it normalized "cutesy" text in UIs.Windows 8 put a frowny face on the Bluescreen of Death, and the floodgates opened.Now every app wants to be```~~~super kawaii~~~```and talk to me like I'm three years old.Computers should act like old-school butlers: address me as "Most esteemed sir" with the most formal version of the "You" pronoun available.

       @ethanrdoesmc I really like how "thee" went from the _informal_ second person pronoun to the _formal_ second person pronoun. (And by "like" I mean "hate, hate, hate, why is English so messed up")

       @zhuowei in French it's very unusual to use "tu" in computer programs. Exceptions I know are Discord and Vinted (where even the person writing the newsletters find this awkward and accidentally uses "vous" sometimes)

       @pulkomandy Half this tweet is a rant at Duolingo, which translates the casual tone of their English version by using the non-formal "you" when it exists: https://fr.duolingo.com, https://zh-cn.duolingo.comThe other half of this rant is targeted at Baidu Pan, who stuck a "~" at the end of their "bug fixes and performance improvements" changelog: https://apps.apple.com/cn/app/%E7%99%BE%E5%BA%A6%E7%BD%91%E7%9B%98/id547166701I had no idea that the kawaii uwuization infected even a cloud storage app! That should be, like, the most staid starched-shirt-and-tie app of all time.
