       i seem to be in a very small and strange subset of threat mitigation, as I am totally willing to go do like, loads of stuff - travel and party, wearing an N95 and just not taking it off to eat and drink indoors In crowded public spaces. People seem to have otherwise separated into two diametrically opposed camps regarding COVID. It stinks.Edit; this is obviously not clear, the two groups are the people who pretend long COVID doesn’t exist, and the people who don’t leave their homes unless forced. It feels like I’m the one person in the middle.

       @hacks4pancakes There is less and less room for people who approach things with nuance and thoughtfulness instead of ideological extremes. You are either "in" a tribe or out of it, and anyone who likes toast butter side up in some situations and butter side down in others faces massive pressure to pick a side.

       I get a lot of other people asking how I can plan to do stuff right now for NYE, or go to a conference… I’ve actually always done a ton of risk management about how I’ll mask, where I’ll eat and drink, the places’ mitigating and airflow measures, who I’m going with… I actually consider all of this.

       @kyle @hacks4pancakes Don’t even tell us you’re from the butter-side-down tribe. Please.

       @hacks4pancakes I once read of a study (don’t fault me, but I think my source is Anthony Robbins), describing the different types of people on Mexican vacations, where, as you well know, there is always a threat of Montezuma’s Revenge.One type of person completely ignores Montezuma, parties down sharing drinks, and drinks the tap water freely.Another type of person won’t even shower unless the water’s filtered, drinks only bottled water, won’t eat lettuce or other veggies in the restaurant, and looks upon anything wet from other than saltwater with trepidation.The last type doesn’t drink the water from the tap or hose and trusts restaurant food over street vendor food. Other than that, Montezuma is given no other consideration.The first type all get sick.The second and third types get sick at the same rates.I think the third type is the choice. For COVID, just don’t stand in front of a sneezing person. You’re done. Fuhgeddaboudit.

       @epic @hacks4pancakes In other countries some people don't use butter at all, but prefer jam or even marmalade!

       @hacks4pancakes sounds like you make your own assessments where most others will just follow whatever mantra their tribe believes in.

       @kyle @hacks4pancakes I can understand that, but if people have toast butter side down, it must be the top of a toasted bread sandwich, or the world is going insane. Oh. Right. It is.
