Just found out an experimental LineageOS build came out for my device. This is the first phone I've had in 3 years with stock android (MIUI to be precise, which is even worse), and even after heavy debloating it's still a nightmare. Thing is, there's no official TWRP yet, so I'd have to scout the internet for some random binary to flash to my device, which isn't ideal. For reference, the phone is a Xiaomi Mi11t Pro, here's the XDA forum post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-oss-12-1-lineageos-19-1-for-xiaomi-11t-pro-vili.4520579/

@dnull have you tried flashing some #gsi rom?https://www.getdroidtips.com/custom-rom-xiaomi-11t-pro/

@R_freeculture I considered going for that route back when I bought it, but back then you needed tons of patches and workarounds to get everything working nicely. And IIRC there was no twrp build floating around so it was straight up impossible to flash it. I'll look into it, I hope something new came up. Thanks for the advice

@dnull you welcome and yes, even now not all hardware is compatible with gsi roms so this is like flash one rom and then check if everything is working. You can use fastboot to flash the system image (fastboot flash system "system.img"), depending of the device maybe you can execute the command in fastboot or in fastbootd, also some devices use the super partition instead the system partition.

@R_freeculture aaand one week later (had to wait because Xiaomi has you wait 7 days to unlock the boatloader) here I am on lineageOS. So far it's been working great

@dnull that's great! Are you using gapps or vanilla lineage?I don't like that from Xiaomi but at least they provide the option to unlock the bootloader.

@R_freeculture vanilla. The only problem so far is having to figure out how to get android auto working and not being able to play Pokémon masters (it requires google play services just to function)

@dnull did you installed the android auto app?https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.projection.gearheadI don't use gapps but maybe you can use microg to play the game. Also maybe with microg you can use the android auto app, I don't use it either 🙃
