Did you know the BBS Documentary site had a massive collection of BBS software I'd collected, that was a bit of a mess?Well, @f15sim did, and he spent a year on and off helping me get it whipped into cleaner shape, and now the site is even better. Hundreds of BBS software programs from history, here:http://software.bbsdocumentary.com

@textfiles @f15sim @textfiles @f15sim Very cool. I love that you're still providing this Archive on the Internet. I have a DVD copy of your Doc I bought when it came out, although these days its easier to watch on Youtube then get the DVD spinning.

@textfiles @f15sim can you remember what software was used to host 'ripterm' sites? (I think I have the name correct). The basic concept is that if you connected to the BBS using regular ANSI / VT100 type terminal emulators you got a fairly regular looking BBS, but if you used the special RIPterm software all the menus etc.. were done using vector graphics.

@textfiles @f15sim I wish someone would have archived the software that ran Mines of Moria. It was homebrew I think.

@textfiles @f15sim I guess I was one of the fifteen ARCBBS hosts when I ran Archetype off a single 9600 baud modem.

@textfiles @f15sim It never occurred to me there was more then one software. Did "doors" work on everything, or were they software specific?

@textfiles @f15sim Hi Jason:I ran a #BBS in the late 80s / early 90s called "Troy City". Should be interesting to see if the software packages I used are still there! For at least a year total, I ran a couple of custom BBS programs, the first written in COMAL80 on a C-128, the second in #ARexx on an #Amiga 3000.The latter used Matt Dillon's DNet protocol stack to allow IP-like multitasking, reading or uploading while downloading; this capability required a special Amiga client I called ParaBit, although not required for access. Somewhat inspired by the Diga! terminal program c1986.Along the way, before writing the ARexx program, I also ran a couple #Citadel variants. It was some adventure; great fun!

@textfiles @f15sim Oh damn... there goes a bunch of hours soon. I will deep dive into that looking for stuff I used to run.I remember running a BBS on my old Zenith PC that had 16k of RAM off 2 5.25 floppy disks because there was no hard drive but can't remember the name of the BBS software.

@textfiles I realise this is an old post but: why aren't any of your(?) sites HTTPS?For other things such as media and information that doesn't matter so much but for software it definitely does.
