@WordyAnchorite @taylorlorenz @emilygorcenski If this while Elon/Mastodon/Twitter spate of events has done for me, at least, is I’m getting exposure into a lot of things I hadn’t delved too deeply into before.Thanks for the pointer, as someone who has always taken a somewhat rigid stance on people who didn’t do their own research. The world is too complex to know it all and be able to run a Google query as a start to figuring it all out. Tips help.

@christopher if you know you can easily do the research, then do it and come back and compare notes; women and minorities are typically expected to do the explaining work only so others can try and dunk on it.Put some mental skin in the game.

@christopher for me the bottom line is: don’t ask someone else to do the work for me.It’s a something I have to remind myself daily - it’s very ingrained in the white-male psyche that “there should be someone around who has already done the work, why should I?” (That’s not imputing intent to you, just an observation on white men in general, myself first and the rest second)

@sivy in a really complex society with lots of actors filling multiple roles, I’d be naive to think other people aren’t doing some work for me. But I see your point. Not as a defense, since that’s not needed, but I am putting the work into building my own instance on this network and following lots of folks with lots of views, to help expose me to lots of new ideas (to me, again). I’m learning like everyone else and during my journey I’ll rely on the work of others at times. 👊✌️
