@christopher if you know you can easily do the research, then do it and come back and compare notes; women and minorities are typically expected to do the explaining work only so others can try and dunk on it.Put some mental skin in the game.

@christopher and that great! But regardless of intent I for one am refusing to ask anyone to do mental or emotional labor that I can and should be doing myself first.There are _so many_ people doing thinking and writing on these topics already, go find them and see what they are saying.

@christopher for me the bottom line is: don’t ask someone else to do the work for me.It’s a something I have to remind myself daily - it’s very ingrained in the white-male psyche that “there should be someone around who has already done the work, why should I?” (That’s not imputing intent to you, just an observation on white men in general, myself first and the rest second)

I’m back to using “Toot!” even though the animations drive me crazy, because it has the smoothest scrolling and refresh experience. The newer apps are nice but seem to struggle with a smooth UI?Now if I could just get Toot! to let me turn off the swoopy boost/follow animations.

As twitter continues to struggle, I’ve heard folks mention government and emergency accounts that are intended for wide broadcast (like accounts warning of weather emergencies or tracking natural disasters, for example) but not necessarily for following others.Is there a place in the “scaling the fediverse” conversation for broadcast-style accounts that aren’t expected to have “replies” but messages of which should be boostable (normal and “quote”)?

Essentially an account set up this way should be able to be considered by a server as “read only” - no “reply” button.Also the idea of an activity pub “bulk” API in the Server-to-Server API would be good for upstreaming data on boosts back to the sending server.

A social network can never be more open than it is safe.For a truly open means of communication, people must be safe to set their own boundaries - who they will and won’t engage with, for whatever reason. Non-consensual engagement (harassment, bad-faith arguing, racism, sexism, trolling, etc) reduces the network’s openness and value to the people who want to safely engage with others in a safe way.We’re not safe in a silo, we’re safe when we have agency over our own digital lives.
