I went halfway through rcia then dropped out. I feel bad for the teacher because she was sweet but like, actually learning about Catholicism cemented my disbelief. I'd say i have no idea how this became a world religion but also the rcia teacher and priest actively discouraged me from reading the bible or catechism sooooolol. Lmao even.

@meowski Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults. Its this like 4 month class thing you sit through before doing various ceremonies to prove your devotion to the church before the triple holy dunking, making you a Full Catholic.People going through it are called catechumens. Technically already part of the church, but unable to accept the sacrament of Eucharist (bread and wine at mass).

@SwampWitchHerbalist any church that discourages you from reading the bible is not a church- that's a cult. i recommend just reading it cover to cover, preferably the KJV, which is so dense, that if you're like me, you'll end up reading every passage multiple times. when you get to the new testament i think you'll find it to be very enlightened compared to the OT

@SuperSnekFriend @SwampWitchHerbalist my take on it is that the OT was written for a more primitive time- NT doesn't invalidate it, it just reforms and simplifies and re-interprets it i'm in no way saying the OT is invalid, i just try to interpret it according to the teachings of Jesus in the NT

@SwampWitchHerbalist define "believe." please tell me where the bible says it's false. i must have missed this parti don't read it as an absolute true/false thing. the parables that Jesus told have multiple layers of meaning. you have to dig deeper to understand it.you were obviously seeking some answers and not finding them within the church- but have you actually read the book itself? that's all you need to do, if you want to have an opinion on it. read it and interpret it for yourself. if you find a priest or church that you like, you're lucky. i havn't found one. all i can tell you is i found the new testament to be very enlightened
