@stux I agree with you. Most NFTs are stupid. However, by the same logic, collectibles share that stupidity. Why are you paying for a rare item that was produced in limited quantity for the sole reason of artificial scarcity? Collectors will answer "because it's not the item itself I'm paying for but the legacy and story behind it, and what it represents to me". So I think we should allow people to collect digital items. But never as a get rich scheme.

@stux But my music NFTs are quite nice, and I don't rely on Spotify. I also have a full comic. Several PDF NFTs, some minigames. And yes, some nice pictures. Oh and my reddit avatar is an NFT too. Issuing event tickets as NFTs is also nice, gives more benefit to the artists. Ticketmaster is shit, everyone knew it Taylor Swift exposed it. What exactly are you scared of? Innovation, Progress,Transparency, Fairness?

@char @stux re: environment.. the ethereum network is now miner free. The annualised electricity consumption was reduced by more than 99.988 %btw I don't really see the point of NFTs either, except perhaps to promote like a donation or something, i.e. someone releases a free (or paid?) EP of music in lossless format but the first 300 who donate or pay more than RRP get an NFT "serial number" or something like that.. But I haven't seen any "easy" way to get lossless music NFTed when I looked a while back.. though perhaps that has improved.I did buy an NFT to see what the fuss is about, and I'm not quite sure. And it seems tied to the opensea.io web site.

@stux Though ai think that buying a link to an image is not useful, buying and selling a physical artwork along with an NFT does have a particular value. The contract that an NFT is, allows for something that is normal to music but new for physical artworks: royalties for the artist.And given that NFTs aren’t anonymous like many traditional art auctions, people can see who sells to who.This is why https://instagram.com/thecla.la sells her work both as a physical object and an NFT.
