I think I’ve asked this before but are there any Mastodon apps out there right now that do notifications really well? In particular condensing the view by grouping likes/follows/boosts so you can see most of what’s happened recently without needing to scroll (like the official Twitter app does)

Ok Tusker by @shadowfacts (still in TestFlight) seems to do this the best at notifications right now. Doesn’t group as aggressively as I’d prefer but it fits what I’m looking for better than any of the others I’ve tried and it has a pretty good Mac app already too.

@charliemchapman it's tricky to balance grouping duplicate notifications and keeping things from getting too out-of-order. I take it you'd want the two groups of favorites for "Wow the new live editing..." to be merged?

@shadowfacts I have to imagine dialing that in to feel right for so many different types of users would be difficult!Yeah, for me I think it’d be nice if basically all favorites were grouped over all time. I can always tap into one to see the individuals if I really wanted to. Maybe same for boosts? And then follows I think grouped by day or over multiple hours?I totally understand if I’m way outside the norm here though. And possibly theres other side-effects I’m not thinking through

@charliemchapman I think ultimately there's going to be a preference(s) for how grouping behaves—bigger accounts with more followers need more aggressive grouping, even if it doesn't make sense for small accountsThe main constraint on how far I want to group is that when refreshing/scrolling back, I want to avoid updating cells that are offscreen since that makes it easy to miss things.Right now, ungroupable notifications serves as barriers that other notifs don't group across which solves that problem and mostly preserves chronological order. But if you have a post that pops off and gets a big flood replies commingled with favs/boosts, grouping is far less effective.

@shadowfacts ahh, yeah that totally makes sense. Preferences eventually would be nice for this for sure too
