I'm not opposed to #ElonMusk making #Twitter a paid-only service TBH.Less advertiser influence and control, helps #Twitter make more money, + it'll drive more people away and towards the #Fediverse, making this platform grow but also decreasing the strain on #Twitter's servers and making it cheaper to run

But, I do think the best thing to do would be to have two Twitters: an "NPC/SFW" #Twitter and a "PvP" #Twitter. "PvP" will have free speech and explicit content, and "NPC/SFW" will have more family-friendly, mainstream content. By default you're in "NPC/SFW" mode, but if you break the current guidelines, instead of getting censored or banned, you're just shuffled and silod into "PvP" mode.Users will be able to opt-in to view "PvP" content, but that will be disabled by default. And advertisers can choose to only advertise on just "NPC/SFW", or only on "PvP".It's pretty much how the #Fediverse functions but if it just had two instances, one was on #Fediblock and one wasn't.

@realcaseyrollins I don't think subscriptions could ever come close to what advertising brings in. Without advertisers, Twitter is dead.

@goz What if advertisers causes the userbase to shrink astronomically though? It'd decrease demand on the servers, making it cheaper to run.Yes, there'd be less gross revenue, but it's a move that could improve net income.

@realcaseyrollins Twitter's debt is going to doom them without advertisers. They almost broke even in 2021 with revenue of ~$2/month per person (217M).However, at $8/month they would need 125M paying subscribers just to make the $1B debt payment each year.

@realcaseyrollins Disregard my terrible math. It's only 10.4M $8/month subscribers to make $1B/year, so that makes it a lot more doable!

@goz You're not wrong, but it's hard to see how this will put them in a worse position than before. It's not like they met their debt payments in 2021, correct?

@realcaseyrollins If I'm reading this right:https://s22.q4cdn.com/826641620/files/doc_financials/2021/q4/Final-Q4'21-earnings-release.pdfThey interest payments for 2021 was $51M. A far cry from the $1B they have now. They would have actually made money in 2021 except for $800M charge to settle a class action shareholder lawsuit.
