@HelenLockhart TBF it happens every winter. No water coming into the tanks, clearly. If I'm frugal I'll have enough water to last for two weeks in the tanks. After that it will be buckets only:https://fitheach.co.uk/life/country-living/

@fitheach Although we're off grid electrically speaking, I am grateful that we have mains water. Especially as climate change makes summers dryer.

@fitheach Oh I can only imagine how good it tastes. Ours comes from the loch at the top of a hill behind our house, but it goes through a treatment plant before it reaches us. But we were in Edinburgh last weekend and the water tasted so awful compared to the relatively pure water we have here.

@fitheach I find there's something strangely attractive about paraffin thingys. Primus stoves, Tilly lamps etc. Shiny brass and there's a bit of knowledge and ceremony to get them fired up. I have a motorcycle with fancy carbs that don't have a choke, can't just press the button and go. From cold have to prime it with throttle pump and "catch" it on the throttle to keep it going, bit of a knack to it.
