The wife bought one of those Air Fryers because they're billed as being cheaper than cooking in the oven.𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝘁!Kind of reminds me of those Toastie sandwich makers. Six weeks of scalding hot cheese and ham sandwiches, and then the thing is chucked up the back of the cupboard.

@dick_turpin I bought one too, a couple of months ago. Haven't used it yet... 🙄

@dick_turpin we use ours a lot since we got it a month or so ago. Usually in addition to the oven so I'm not sure its saving us any money

@stardot TBF, I cooked a joint of pork and the roast potatoes in it Sunday. I shall await the feedback from the boss in relation to the electric bill at #CastleCannon

@jacpl I can't make up my mind. True, the heating temperatures are slightly lower and the cooking times anywhere between five and ten minutes shorter but I'm not convinced it will have a huge impact on the amount of electricity used?

@dick_turpin I bought it more for convenience than for cost saving tbh. I think those intent on saving money tend to use it in conjunction with one of the big multi-cooker thingies (that air fry, steam, slow/pressure cook etc as well) so that they avoid using the oven altogether. I guess it depends on what you're cooking too? I dunno, I just fancied the idea of it really!

@jacpl # The joint would take about an hour and 10 in the oven. I cooked it for 1 hour, although we think we might have got away with 50 minutes. The trouble is, you do need to be careful with some meats. It's similar to an optical illusion; it felt like I was only cooking for half an hour. 🤷‍♂️

@dick_turpin Is it the ninja one you have? That's what I bought, the dual zone air fryer. I don't envisage cooking joints of meat very often, but according to the collective wisdom of facebook groups (haha!) it's meant to be a much faster way of cooking.

@jacpl Na, the Mrs bought a small one, so I had to do the veg on the stove. I did the roast separately, so in total cooking time was around 1:30 (I chucked the Yorkshire in with the spuds for the last 5 minutes.)

@dick_turpin Hmm...well I've seen people do the meat in one compartment and potatoes / veg in the other. So maybe you would need a bigger one to see any significant cost savings.

@antiphase What about bread? Do you think I should get a bread maker?
