Societies build themselves; they can't be built, and a title like "Designing Democracy" seems to convey some kind of paternal intent.In the case of FSE, for example, when I started it I didn't have a plan but suspected that the less I do, the better it runs and the happier people are, and this has turned out to be the case.

All this to hinder people to freely form an opinion which is essential to freely express opinion. Ofc its impossible and undeisrable to achieve a sytem where bad actors arent possible, but right now we live in a system where being bad, ruthless, reckless and downright criminal is greatly rewarded and such people rise to the most powerful positions. Propaganda can be defined as manipulative media that aims to increase personal private profit and power and then outlawed, sounds authoritarian but it will dry out the foundation of most authoritarianism in the world :) If Milton wants the liberty to know, he needs to make sure the world is transparent and controlled by open counsils, not by intransparent private people that can act in secrecy.This nice little server here is the equivalent of a shady corner; they have always existed and people were able to talk there in small groups about anything; the thing is we need truth to be spread around a lot of people, its no use if just a few can think freely. and just because people are able to say whatever they want doesnt mean they are right, many people say a lot of bullshit on here as well :P

An (at least ostensible) Trotskyist should be able to understand participation in a larger system.You can inhibit the production of some of the signalling pheromones an ant produces or you can spray those pheromones and you can make the ants act stupid. For example, you spray an ant with the pheromone that ants release on death and not only do other ants try to carry that ant to the graveyard, that ant will play dead until the smell wears off. You can (chemically or with a knife) damage a brain, but we still have no idea how to add IQ points. If someone gave you an up-to-date map of your own brain and the means to rewire it by fiat, you should be aware that anything you do is likely to fuck it up. What makes you think you can improve on a system that integrates seven billion brains?
