I set up something to post my tweets to Mastodon, but starting to think maybe it’s not the right solution. When I do log into Mastodon, it’s mostly people complaining I didn’t tag the person on Mastodon bc I tagged them on Twitter and the service cross posted. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@wbm312 I dislike how everyone seems to be dictating how it needs to be done..My vote is do what makes you happy, and the right people will come along for the ride

@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 Well said! Also be aware that there may be folks who have already muted or unfollowed crossposters, so a poll of this kind is likely to be skewed toward those who tolerate crossposts.

@mossmann @nathanmcnulty interesting. Yah I’m surprised ar how hostile/not tolerant folks are to people who are taking more time to transition or who are trying to do both. I’m finding my experience (ironically) to be way less enjoyable on Mastodon, than on Twitter. There’s a big you are either with us or you’re against us vibe on Mastodon.

@wbm312 @mossmann It's a bummer because it wasn't that way for the first few weeks.I appreciated the "this community has existed a long time, here's how we've done things and why, please consider adopting some things"But now it's division and animosity, like how dare you use the other site...I have friends in both places that I like to keep up with, so here I am, in both places 🤷‍♂️

@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 I definitely get the frustration with crossposts. They make the fediverse less usable, and there seem to be more folks crossposting from Twitter than to Twitter, probably because of the APIs (punishing the more open community). Crossposts signal (accurately or not) that you care less about this community and its norms (tagging, CWs, alt text) and that, though you want fediverse eyeballs, you would prefer interaction back on your home platform - strong colonial vibes.

@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 That said, I'm sorry to hear about the hostility. Personally I've unfollowed some crossposters but not all.I greatly appreciate the control that Mastodon gives me over my timeline. I hardly ever look at local or federated timelines (which are polluted by crossposting and other behaviors even for non-followers), and I wonder if the community may outgrow those timelines.
