@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 Well said! Also be aware that there may be folks who have already muted or unfollowed crossposters, so a poll of this kind is likely to be skewed toward those who tolerate crossposts.

@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 I definitely get the frustration with crossposts. They make the fediverse less usable, and there seem to be more folks crossposting from Twitter than to Twitter, probably because of the APIs (punishing the more open community). Crossposts signal (accurately or not) that you care less about this community and its norms (tagging, CWs, alt text) and that, though you want fediverse eyeballs, you would prefer interaction back on your home platform - strong colonial vibes.

@nathanmcnulty @wbm312 That said, I'm sorry to hear about the hostility. Personally I've unfollowed some crossposters but not all.I greatly appreciate the control that Mastodon gives me over my timeline. I hardly ever look at local or federated timelines (which are polluted by crossposting and other behaviors even for non-followers), and I wonder if the community may outgrow those timelines.

"What's the word for a USB thing, any host or device or whatever?" I asked. In reply, @miek found this definition in the Power Delivery specification. Thanks. This explains so much.

Just in case that doesn't clear things up for you, here's this from the USB 2.0 specification.

@foone I haven't seen a dual-host mouse, but there are dual-host USB hubs. You could plug a mouse into such a hub.

What you wrote in your health policy: “masks are encouraged but not required”What I read: “Anti-maskers are welcome here. We wish the more vulnerable members of our community would just die and stop inconveniencing us.”

@internetarchive Read the room. The content laundering done by generative AI and supported by this ruling is catastrophic for the creative community. Muddying the waters of the commons with nonsense, it threatens the availability of factual information to future generations. You could present the potential benefits of the ruling as a “silver lining” rather than as a wholly positive outcome.
