@Lunarised You don't need to understand it because it'll be America in 15 years and South Africa in 5 years give or take.

Wasn’t it explained that some sort of time thing happened which sent the astronaut to the future? In the mark walhberg version I remember that. I figured it was the same for the old one

@arielanimefan @Lunarised I only ever watched the original series but from what I remember, they go to sleep in their spacecraft in some kind of pods and when they wake up one of their crewmates has long turned into bones. They then come upon a planet and crash land on it in a body of water and the movie entirely takes place in that region of the world. The ending with the statue confirms what the last surviving member of the spaceship crew played by Charlton Heston suspected which is it's the future after a nuclear war, when he comes across the statue while riding a horse down a beach with his super hot regressed human cavegirl gf.Second movie was some dogshit in the same future, this time about psychic human survivors all of whom look like burn victims underneath the facemasks they wear, who live underground and worship a nuclear missile. Very convoluted plot where people from the time the first crew launched into space send another crew up to look for them who then also end up in the future ape planet. Not anywhere near as good as the first movie. Third movie is set in the "present" and is about how spooky science experiments were done on apes which made them smarter and explains how it became the planet of the apes, and it's not very good either.
