       In 2002, Google launched a page with a set of guidelines for site owners that gave an overview of best practices when it came to building a site. A lot has changed since then, so we recently launched a refreshed, simplified version of this called Google Search Essentials.        @danbri @searchliaison Oh wow! I did not even know that! I guess this means we will not see YouTube or Blogger joining the Fediverse then. I guess that explains why Google ignored my question earlier (however, they did answer an unrelated second question to my satisfaction).

       @darnell @searchliaison while I do work for Google, I am not a lawyer nor responsible for these decisions. All I’d say for sure is that the licensing seems to discourage  rich integrations with existing non-AGPL systems & adds workflow debt to subsequent changes too.That aside, I am not sure domain-name based verification is the best way to be sure of what you’re reading. There are other ways eg rel=me that might be more flexible. Not every org has the resources to run servers.
