       Why do cops like to use the phrase “high rate of speed” so much? It’s nonsensical.On the other hand, if you read that phrase in a news report, it’s a good sign the article is just a regurgitation of whatever the cops said, reprinted uncritically.

       @drahardja are they trying to say "high rate of change of speed"—i.e., acceleration—and just doing so weirdly or do they literally just mean "high speed"

       @shadowfacts They just mean “high speed”. It’s a verbal tic. I’ve only ever heard law enforcement types use that phrase.
