My walk around #Tampere today took me into the Forest. It looks so beautiful with the conifer branches covered in snow.

In my original post I called them fir trees, then edited it to spruces. But maybe they're pine trees? Eventually I compromised and put conifer instead. Can anyone explain to me which is correct?

@veskuh coming from you, as someone who's grown up surrounded by them, I take this as definitively the correct answer 😃

@flypig Haha 😀 Well, yes, I've seen a lot of trees, but biology was not really my strong subject at school. Similarly, I might categorize any swimming bird as a duck.

@veskuh As you can see it's clearly not my speciality either. Everything I know about ducks I learnt from Python type checking 😉

@flypig @veskuh I remember in Finnish class we had to learn the names of different trees and fruits and fish.... and I'm like, I don't even know the their names in English, much less the differences!hauki, kuha, ahven, muikku... ?!I only know lohi and tonnikala 😅

@cybette @flypig I always cheat and check fish names from internet if I need to translate them 😀

@vattuvarg @flypig @veskuh I do recognize muikku (vendace) and now it totally makes sense that they are well networked as I usually find a bunch of them networking on a plate :)the other 3 translates to pike, perch, and pike perch; and after countless times checking them I still can't remember which is which 😆

@vattuvarg @flypig @veskuh yep, even I have learnt to say muikku before taking pics :)and because of that, for a brief period of time I actually thought muikku was another word for cheese 😅
