@robpike Please do not recommend proprietary malware to people: https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/malware-apple.htmlkdenlive is an excellent video editor: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/getting_started/tutorials.html#tutorialsI myself just prefer straight ffmpeg really.

@robpike If you’re a rank beginner I’d suggest starting out with iMovie. It can do everything I’ve wanted to do for home movies, including separating audio and video transitions. Once you’ve edited a couple of movies with it, you’ll be in a better position to tackle Final Cut Pro without flailing around.

@robpike rippletrainig.com is my absolute go to for video editing training. It’ll cost you less than $100 to get their complete Final Cut tutorial and it’s fantastic.

@robparker Thanks for your offer. I'd like to take you up on it. Actually, it's for my partner @reneefrench, whose has lots of animations on instagram and youtube. The problem that has troubled her is the way to organize her files and so on - what is the actual structure and terminology required to create a set of related short movies that share resources. She needed a new laptop because the old one became a monolithic FCP blob we couldn't pull apart.

@robpike @robparker i don't understand the hierarchy of "project" "event" "library" and clearly have been going about it all wrong by starting a new "project" every time i make a new film resulting in a monster file i didn't know i was creating.
