With Figma being acquired by Adobe, it's a good time to look at Penpot, an open source alternative. And now Penpot have received some funding to continue development:https://www.decibel.vc/test-blog/penpot-a-new-era-of-design-freedom(Since it's a Libre version of Figma, I guess we're lucky they didn't call it Ligma.)

@xerz If you routinely need per-project versions of your programming language, that's a warning sign right there. Ditto requiring that humans edit YAML.The sense I'm getting is that Haskell is the Python of functional programming, only less usable.

Adobe software starts removing colors from your files and replacing them with black, unless you agree to pay $21 a month to Pantone to license those colors. https://twitter.com/funwithstuff/status/1585850262656143360

@robpike Seeing a real one was a shock, models look much better -- they don't look like they're built out of thin sheet metal, aluminium foil and duct tape. I mean, in retrospect I understand why it was so fragile, but...

@marcan I'm reminded of a joke:It's 1941, and two elderly Jewish men are standing in line at the railway station, waiting to be loaded onto the train. One turns to the other and says:"Do you know which death camp they're sending us to? Auschwitz-Birkenau or Treblinka?"The other turns to him and says "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I'm not interested in politics."

I still post on Twitter.Every now and again I search for people mentioning Mastodon. The ones who seem to be asking honest questions, I try to answer them clearly and concisely. The ones repeating misinformation or misconceptions, I try to state the facts neutrally and in a friendly way.Of course, many people just want an excuse to stay on Twitter, so there's a lot of "Multiple servers! No full text search! Unspecified things are confusing! Don't like hashtags! DMs aren't private!"

People complain about the iOS keyboard correcting the F word to “duck”, but I just tried to type DuckDuckGo after a large latte and it came out as DickSuckGo with no corrections offered.

@bugaevc The first language where I’ve found cross-compilation painless enough to consider using for my own projects, is Go.I’ve tried building C programs for my Synology NAS and it was a horrible experience, even though both systems were x86. My Go programs, I just set a couple of environment variables, compile normally, and rsync the binary across.I hope more languages will follow Go’s lead and have painless cross compile.

@robpike If you’re a rank beginner I’d suggest starting out with iMovie. It can do everything I’ve wanted to do for home movies, including separating audio and video transitions. Once you’ve edited a couple of movies with it, you’ll be in a better position to tackle Final Cut Pro without flailing around.

       Supermarket conversation with my wife:"We've gotta get these.""Why?""Because they're updog.""I don't get it.""They're made from updog!""What is updog?"So, $4.78 well spent.
