@mattblaze just @mentioned me and asked a question, which I answered in good faith, and with what I thought was a respectful tone. This is neither the professional behaviour of a serious computer security expert, nor the playful banter of an underground hacker. If anyone is wondering why a lot of people here don't really take him seriously, this whole thread is a good example of why.

@strypey That's a tragicomedy thread in how he goes so quickly from saying that people should not act so defensively about criticisms of the UX here and how no one is doing the developers any favors by acting defensively, for devs need to hear about user experiences, to where he then tells people to fuck off and that they should block him when they point out how hostile he is because he doesn't want to hear it. @mattblaze

@jotaemei He's one of the great micro-posting satirist, we're truly blessed to have him here ;) All the dudebros that continued to snipe at me after he swore at and blocked me; Best Supporting Actor for the lot of them š
One positive of being involved with this thread is that it's finally helped me to understand what people mean by "techbro" and why people rail against them with such passion and fury. Makes total sense now.

@jotaemei OTOH I must remind myself to have compassion for Matt. Someone mentioned he's had a pretty rough time on Titter. That's pretty easy to believe and maybe it's made him trigger happy. Either way, I hope he can detox enough to stop telling people to "fuck off" for trying to trying to give him some cultural context within which to understand what he's observing.

Sadly @strypey , I personally find rudeness unbearable but more widespread than we think. Academia and Technology are two notorious fields where rudeness, arrogance, and tone deafness thrive.

@arinbasu1 I found it really confronting. Generally when I get scolded on here, it's because I've been letting myself get het up and failed to be diplomatic. But Matt's sudden escalation from raised eyebrow to the nuclear option really took me by surprise.

@arinbasu1 Indeed. Ironically, it's the milder bullying that cuts the deepest. When some basement dweller troll hurls racial slurs at me, it's water off a duck's back. Mute, maybe report, and move on. But it does when head in when I find myself asking AITA?
