Implemented the most important feature of any client.Mastodon is VERY re-post heavy. Having quick access to disabling reposts is important I think. Some people are just so spammy.

@schwa Is it possible to detect and follow this web client setting? Or is it web-only?

@jwisser @schwa if that affected clients, would be terrific I think my main complaint isn’t boosts per se but the fact I will see the same post repeatedly. Especially annoying when you follow the boosted poster!“Yes, yes, I saw her post that yesterday, please do keep up” 😆

@jwisser @schwa don’t get me started on people who boost themselves 😑

@nuthatch @jwisser @schwa replying to a post and then boosting the reply has been put forward as a saner means of quote posting.Better than turning text into an image with a screenshot. More courtesy, in that the reply stays under, as distinct from birdsite convention of top posting, in which the repost says it's more important by being on top. I'm not for or against the idea, too new around here, just sharing something that seems on topic.

@maphew @nuthatch @schwa I would not call that number of extra steps "saner".IMO, quote posting _is_ the sane version of quote posting. I don't understand why Gargron associates it with pile-ons; for me it's always been how I share cool ideas with the people who already follow me. (I consider reposts universally a blight, because they're low-effort and encourage spammy behavior, rather than thoughtful sharing.)

@jwisser @maphew @nuthatch I’ve definitely seen them used frequently as pileons. Personalities will often use QT as a “look at this dipshit”

@schwa @maphew @nuthatch Hmmm. That's legitimately a bummer. Do you think it's used that way often enough to completely outweigh the positive uses?

@jwisser @schwa @maphew @nuthatch Eugen has since said he doesn’t feel as strongly about it as he used to, but that said I agree with Jonathan about having seen loads of QT piles on Twitter. I’ve come to realize myself that my urge to QT is mostly (but not always) to dunk on something because I want to talk about them/it and not talk to the author. That said, I don’t see why a client can’t manually implement QT - just show linked posts inline.
