Sorted Mum's place with 3 smoke alarms, an RCD, and a frost heater in the pump shed. That's better.

@vik I really should sort a smoke alarm for this place - any recommendations on good but cost effective alarms - or are they much of a muchness

@taliosThere are some special ones for kitchens that don't go off at the drop of a toasted muffin, but nearly all of them now use a basically identical optical sensor and are fitted with a mute button. Some take AA's and have a 5 year battery life, or a fixed lithium cell lasting a decade. Other than that, not much between them. I'd avoid all the fancy networked crap - it helps to know which bit of the house is smokey rather than having everything going off!

@vik I only have 2 bedrooms, a lounge and small kitchen - so no matter where it went off - I'd be hearing it everywhere anyway :)
