@cwebber @nevAlso, I did not skim the replies to your original post but in case nobody actually gave you a real answer here is my TLDR; of what activity pub is..It is the underlying framework that powers Mastodon, PixelFed, and other social media applications that all make up the Fediverse. You basically have one protocol in the backend (which is activitypub in this case) and you can create various types of social networks and apps that can all function differently but still interoperate.

@cwebber I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as ActivityPub, is in fact, GNU/ActivityPub, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus ActivityPub. ActivityPub is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
