@boilingsteam lol so what the fuck is even the point of using them? if they're gonna snitch your ass out for torrenting then they're useless.mullvad's not in the US and gets audited to not keep logs so I prefer them, dunno what other services people might suggest to those who suddenly have a very good reason to switch.

@furgar @boilingsteam @Afflicted I don’t think PIA has been tested since it was acquired by Kape Technologies (https://torrentfreak.com/private-internet-access-to-be-acquired-by-kape/)But at least there is some proof in court of their claims https://torrentfreak.com/private-internet-access-no-logging-claims-proven-true-again-in-court-180606/

@suorcd I bought a multi year plan from PIA that hasn't expired yet, so I'm still grudgingly using it. I think I bought it after the Kape acquisition but based off outdated advice from before it, just like people will probably do now with Nord@furgar @boilingsteam @Afflicted

@NoSir @suorcd @furgar @boilingsteam @Afflicted no VPN CEO is going to risk his personal freedoms or the continuity of his business to protect some $5/month rando doing shady shit. Only idiots believe otherwise. “No logs” is a great policy to protect you when the VPN gets compromised by non-state actors, but it was never intended to let you hide criminal activity from the government. All VPN’s will comply and start logging when court ordered. (Yes, even those incorporated in Timbuktu.)

@boilingsteam The article you linked doesn't invalidate the no-logs claim though. In most places, companies will probably have to comply with their law enforcement anyway, if they wish to stay in business. I guess your best bet is a no-logs vpn provider in a country that has the most respectful laws to privacy you can find. But even then if you are suspected of a serious crime, I doubt you can be protected by the provider

@indigonaut it does invalidate because they would be keeping logs on specific targets if asked. So... You cant be "no logs" and "sometimes logs" at the same time. No logs is an absolute.

@ringo @dew_the_dew @boilingsteam @furgar @heyarnold Firefox VPN uses molevad but reskins it and marks it up. No email required it generates a random user ID and password and you can pay with cash via mail if you'd like.

@Afflicted @dew_the_dew @boilingsteam @furgar @heyarnold hmmm but i use stuff like ssh alot and want that encrypted too. :Dthe regular client would be better in that case.it will take some getting used to not using a CLI vpn client, and just telling xyz connect such and such a place. i do enjoy that.believe it or not i have never bash scripted it, just because. ha

@boilingsteam ah, fair enough. After a little bit of research, ProtonVPN promises to be no-log, and they explain that under their law (swiss), they are not obligated to keep logs for the vpn service, even with a court order. (for their mail service its different though)Maybe a nice alternative?

@boilingsteam at the end of the article, it is said that the VPN service has no logs stored. IF this was true, the only information they could provide are the subscribers’ datails.

@boilingsteam the fact they built the system so that user could generate logs is the heart of the problem, to me. Once the capability is available, it will be used. Not to mention warrant canaries only work, as well as the laws of government that govern them.
