I guess #Tumblr will eventually integrate with #ActivityPub, making it interoperable with #Mastodon to some extent? If this is true, social media in 2023 is gonna be wild. If you hate Mastodon but want to stay connected to folks who moved here, consider keeping an eye on Tumblr.

@sbseltzer@peoplemaking.games I'd assume it'll be widely defederated and limited if it does considering the moderation/commercialisation implications, as interesting as it is conceptually

@evelyn @sbseltzer Heh, I was all excited until you pointed this out! I know a bunch of people who moved from Twitter to Tumblr who I would love to follow from here, but if Tumblr doesn't meet our standards then that's moot.I'm not well-versed on defederation; if instance A blocks instance B, can users on B still follow users on A?

@jsstaedtler@mastodon.art @sbseltzer@peoplemaking.games so, "defederation" or "suspension" is shorthand for instance A rejecting all communications it knows are from instance B and not sending anything to instance B, and this does mean that people on instance B wouldn't be able to follow those on instance A.There's also other options short of this though, there's "limiting" or "followers only mode", if instance A limits instance B, people from instance B can usually only see enough to send a follow request to someone on A, but if this is accepted, then they can interact as normal
