       There are two internet censorship laws being considered by congress right now.One is KOSA, which would institute a Rozkomandr-style blocklist that would require all levels (browsers, apps and websites, service providers, and operating system) to filter out content to "prevent and mental health disorders".  Given that 'mental health disorder' is not a legal term, and considering what the US fascist party considers a 'mental disorder'...

       Worse, it would compel Congress to study and implement national IDs for computer or browser access, enforced at the hardware level.I would need to spin up a website explain all the ways that is bad.

       The second is CTOPPA, which extends COPPA closer from 13 to 16, closer to adulthood.Consider how politicians of the US fascist party wants to extend the age of majority to 21 or 25, while keeping the age of enlistment the same.

       The text of the bill is similar to many EU bills - which means it's a mash up of technically ignorant and logically inconsistent ideas.It includes a takedown mechanism similar to the DMCA, but unlike the DMCA where fair use analysis is required of the service provider, and claims can be rejected for bad faith or vexatious demands, and there is a counterclaim mechanism to protect users - CTOPPA requires removal upon *receipt of complaint*.

       ...and oh, this is a good one I just spotted in it.  CTOPPA defines 'animated characters' or 'celebrities who appeal to minors' as something immediately that marks a website as 'directed towards a minor'.Animators, streamers and youtubers are just going to LOVE having to take down any content immediately upon any complaint.  And the usual bad actors are going to LOVE being able to do that.

       The usual right-wing money pots are trying to push this through the lame duck session, with some of the more tech-illiterate Democrats on board, before the balance of the Senate changes and it becomes unlikely for the bill to pass, so the time to call and write is now.
