       @floppy @mastodonusercount It's downright impossible to gather statistics on ALL instances of ALL projects in the #Fediverse.New instances pop up, instances disappear. Not all instances are known to the various Fediverse sites. (Go try finding all active #Zap instances.) New projects are launched without immediately showing up on the Fediverse sites.And #Streams stubbornly refuses to gather and submit any stats, and it's still completely absent from all Fediverse sites.

       @MartinG I am aware of that and I think that's fine. For it's decentral nature, a complete statistic is unrealistic, but also it's not necessary I think. Getting a sense of how the network is affected is already good information.Besides, your argument is in principle also true if applied to the entirety of Mastodon-specific instances. Yet we have a representative statistic of what's going in and we can think about it.What are you referring to with Streams, btw?(1/2)

       @floppy #Streams (https://codeberg.org/streams/streams) is the name of the code repository (and the "project") of the successor to #Zap (and #RedMatrix, #Osada, #Misty and #Roadhouse).Zap, in turn, was created as a slimmed-down successor to #Hubzilla which focuses more on #NomadicIdentity.In case you don't know Hubzilla either (https://hubzilla.org), it's an even more powerful successor to #Friendica (https://friendi.ca) which was created some 6 years before #Mastodon to federate with everything.

       @MartinG I think focusing on Mastodon user counts alone is interesting, but even more interesting I find (when contrasted) how the recent weeks affect non-Mastodon Fediverse-projects.Especially since Mastodon and Fediverse are often (unintentionally?) conflated, which seems to happen frequently on the Birdsite.(2/2)
