@davidrevoy This is so cute! Stack of papers on a toothpeg. 😻 Especially the third image (zoomed out): If it was a game, I would totally play it. Have you considered teaming up with a game developer? Can totally see some isometric, unit-and-resource-management, save-the-planet-solarpunk potential here.

@tante Reminds me of this talk I found recently..🗨️ "You will make more accurate predictions about software and (in this web-driven world) about services, if you ask yourself not: What's the business model? But rather: Do the people who like it take care of each other? That turns out to be the better predictor of longevity.".Clay Shirky on Love, Internet StyleInvidious: https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=Xe1TZaElTAsYouTube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=Xe1TZaElTAs

@tante More recently, also influenced by your and Meredith's great talks on RePublica, I started replacing AI in my head with "modern automation" whenever I hear people talk about it, and that makes a difference already. That's not exactly what you saying, I'm aware, but follows the same spirit. Both makes sense, I think. I think at the moment it helps to choose proper language depending on target audience, including techbros and people spreading the "AI stealing jobs" narrative.(1/2)

@harblinger Couldn't recall perfectly and needed to do some research first, but now I can appreciate it, well done. 👍

Been searching for a web-based graph editor for a while which is mobile-friendly, supports metadata for nodes and edges, and allows me to switch quickly between nodes. Couldn't find one. Didn't think my requirements were so specific for something so ubiquitous as a graph editor, but I guess they are.Writing one myself now. Going well so far. Satisfying. One more evening session and I think it's ready for my basic needs.

@freemo Good question. I meant the network/vertex/edge-based kind of graph.Updated the original post for clarity. Thanks for the hint.

@freemo Thanks for asking. What I want to have in the end is a visualisation of a graph, where OTOH I can add/move/remove nodes, but OTOH also select single nodes and edit metadata, that gets displayed in a webform-kind-of-thing, when I select nodes. All of that mobile-friendly.(1/3)

@freemo There are amazing programs out there like Cytoscape or yEd and some web-based tools that looked nice, but none of that felt lightweight enough for my intended workflow. I will be selecting different nodes (and edges) frequently to edit metadata. So I want to have as little friction (required clicks/taps or however you want you measure it) there as possible.(2/3)

@freemo The output format is some simple JSON {nodes:..., edges:...} kind of thing. Focus of this project is nice usability for me, so I can use it as a tool for other things.Graphs are great and I like modelling things with it frequently. Having a lightweight, but flexible tool in my repertoire I feel comfortable with (besides the two great ones mentioned above) will be very helpful, I think. :)(3/3)

@freemo Thanks for the thoughts.1) I usually try to avoid rolling anything my own, because the one who needs to maintain the code needs to be me. :) But I couldn't find anything that fit my needs/work habits.2) Text-based formats are great and I use them (PlantUML, Mermaid, Graphviz), but here I don't find them useful. Too constraining. I want to be able to cluster and group things quickly and flexibly.(1/2)

For a few weeks I have a #3dPrinter on my desk. It's not mine. I received it broken and I'm repairing it. It's a blend of components not designed to work together. I didn't have hands-on experience with 3D printers before. It's a great learning opportunity and a challenge.I got it working. More fine-tuning is due, but 3DBenchy finally printed nicely and the first practical objects were successful. Printing a model I designed myself was incredibly rewarding. Now everything looks like a nail.

The printer is from a lesser known manufacturer, the controller board is replaced, and the display is not original. Getting the #Marlin firmware adjusted to this creative blend was not straightforward. Some more hardware modification is needed, like changing two-pin to three-pin connectors or installing a MOSFET-board. The display needs a proper case, too. Also It should get some general maintenance, like cleaning the nozzle and bowden tube properly or tightening all screws again.

#Gitlab supports #ActivityPub in the upcoming 16.5 release. See links below for more details.💬 "For GitLab, anything with activities (in the sense of what GitLab means by “activity”) can be an ActivityPub actor. This includes items like projects, groups, and releases. In those more abstract examples, an actor can be thought of as an actionable feed."Documentation:https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/development/activitypub/Feature blueprint:https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/architecture/blueprints/activity_pub/index.htmlMerge request for the feature:https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/merge_requests/127023
