I see many people criticizing Musk using the term "Vox populi, Vox Dei" by pointing out that the meaning of the original quote was to admonish people listening to popular opinion since “it is always close to madness.”But I don't understand the criticism. Was the problem with the reinstatement of Trump's account that it was democratic (“popular opinion is madness”), that it was undemocratic (“the poll was biased”), or that the public opinion is irrelevant in this case?It seems to me that the criticism for it being democratic is the weakest one.

@tiago To say it was democratic is delusional. He tweeted to his evangelical followers - not to Twitter itself (some of us have blocked him to save our sanity). The bias of the poll is then self-evident, which also made it undemocratic. And third, EM's made his intention to bring back Trump explicit, over and again. Public opinion was always going to be irrelevant. He simply threw in a bit of Latin to fool his cult into feeling they had some power in the process.

@tiago I would propose to you that there is a broader form of democratic practice than merely just counting heads and going with the majority.

@quay You're missing my point. I'm not arguing that the poll was democratic — I don't think it was. I'm saying that I don't understand why some people are criticizing it for being democratic.

@tiago I’m not missing your point. I’m not arguing that the poll was or was not democratic. I’m arguing that the practice of democracy is more than just counting the yeas and nays. All functional democracies/democratic institutions have safeguards against things that are a danger to the state/org aand/or to members of the community. (Furthermore, Twitter is neither a state nor a democratic institution.)If I punch you in the neck, we don’t need to vote whether I’m allowed back in the pub.
